Timothy Yau, MD

Dr. Yau is a graduate of Saint Louis University Medical School and completed his residency, chief residency, and fellowship at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. Dr. Yau began at Washington University School of Medicine in 2011 in the Division of Nephrology as an Assistant Professor of Medicine and was named Course Director of the first and third year Practice of Medicine courses in 2016. He has received seven Distinguished Service Teaching Awards and was named the winner of the American Society in Nephrology “Innovations in Kidney Education Contest” for a web-based video curriculum to provide real-time nephrology education. Nationally, he is the social media editor for the American Journal
of Kidney Disease and is faculty for the Nephrology Social Media Collective. He is a member of the curriculum renewal architectural teams and serves on the Committee on Admissions for the School of Medicine

Dr. Benjamin Humphreys, Chief of the Division of Nephrology states that “[Dr. Yau] is highly deserving of this recognition due to his innovative teaching strategies, his commitment to curriculum development, his participation in teaching activities nationally and his stellar teaching evaluations by students.” Dr. Vicky Fraser, Department Chair for Internal Medicine states that Dr. Yau “is a highly respected faculty member who has already distinguished himself as an exceptional clinician-educator…”

Another nominator states that “whether through didactic lectures in Grand Rounds or teaching on the clinical service, Dr. Yau is described as caring, engaging, and thoroughly committed to [improving] the education of medical students, residents and faculty.”
