Kulkarni named editor-in-chief of Cancer Genetics journal​​

Also director of Cytogenomics and Molecular Pathology at Washington University, Kulkarni assumes the role Jan. 1

Shashikant Kulkarni, PhD, an associate professor of pathology and immunology atWashington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, has been named editor-in-chief of the journal Cancer Genetics. He will assume the 10-year role Jan. 1.

The peer-reviewed journal publishes scientific papers on the cellular, genetic and molecular aspects of cancer, including cancer predisposition and clinical diagnostic applications. Kulkarni will set goals and determine editorial strategy for the publication, adding novel avenues to publish peer-reviewed clinical genomics case reports.

“It is an honor and privilege to be selected for this editorship,” Kulkarni said. “We will work hard to promote precision cancer medicine through encouraging novel and innovative approaches for capturing clinical and research cases and functional studies.”

He also is an associate professor of pediatrics and of genetics at the School of Medicine and a research member at Siteman Cancer Center.

As director of Cytogenomics and Molecular Pathology at Washington University, Kulkarni oversees a clinical diagnostic lab that performs clinical genomics testing for congenital anomalies; leukemias, lymphomas and other hematological disorders; and solid neoplasms. These tests include: prenatal diagnostics; perinatal and childhood studies in the evaluation of congenital and developmental disorders; infertility and pregnancy loss studies; and cancer tests.
