Tan named president-elect of EMS organization
Will promote legislation that improves emergency medical care

David K. Tan, MD, an associate professor of emergency medicine at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, has been elected president-elect of the National Association of EMS Physicians (NAEMSP).
The organization represents physicians responsible for EMS programs, as well as nonphysicians dedicated to out-of-hospital emergency care.
Tan, also medical director of Washington University Emergency Medical Services, will become president of NAEMSP in 2019 and serve until 2021.
“NAEMSP has taken a lead role in promoting federal legislation that would improve the emergency medical care of patients,” Tan said. “This includes laws allowing certain life-saving medications to be available on ambulances and improving quality-control measures for people suffering from emergency medical or trauma conditions. I want to do everything I can to see these initiatives become a reality.”
