Nancy L. Bartlett, MD ’86

Nancy L. Bartlett, MD, Koman Chair of Medical Oncology at Washington University School of Medicine, is internationally recognized as an outstanding clinician educator and clinical investigator in the field of oncology.

For the past 20 years, she has directed the lymphoma program at the Alvin J. Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine. An extremely dedicated physician, she has cared for thousands of cancer patients, including many who travel to St. Louis from around the country to seek her expertise. With such a strong and visible commitment to her patients, Bartlett has ranked in the top ten percent of patient satisfaction scores for the past seven years.

A prolific researcher, Bartlett has served as principal investigator or co-investigator on multiple large multicenter clinical trials designed to advance both the safety and effectiveness of lymphoma treatment protocols. As a result, she is credited with improving overall outcomes for patients diagnosed with lymphoma.

In addition to her own investigations, Bartlett oversees all cancer clinical trials conducted at Siteman Cancer Center through her role as chair of its Quality Assurance and Safety Monitoring Committee, a position she has held continuously for 15 years. Among her colleagues, Bartlett is described as detail-oriented, meticulous, and effective in all of her leadership and clinical efforts. Among the hundreds of fellows and residents she has helped to train, she is known as a personable educator, willing to guide and encourage them in research and career development.

In recognition of her outstanding achievements and commitment to clinical research, she was honored with the Koman Chair in Medical Oncology in 2010 and is the recipient of the Richard L. Schilsky Achievement Award from the Alliance Study Group (formerly called Cancer and Leukemia Study Group B), the highest award given by the largest cancer cooperative group in the United States.

The Washington University Medical Center Alumni Association is proud to honor Dr. Bartlett with its 2016 Alumni Achievement Award.
