Input sought in search for new School of Medicine dean

The search committee invites students, faculty and staff to provide feedback at open forums.

February 20, 2015

After leading the medical school for nearly 12 years, Larry J. Shapiro, MD, announced in January that he will step down as executive vice chancellor for medical affairs and dean of the School of Medicine. Shapiro will continue as dean until his successor is appointed.

Leading the national search for Shapiro’s replacement is Washington University Chancellor Mark S. Wrighton, PhD. The 14-member search committee also includes Provost Holden Thorp, PhD, faculty members, department heads, a medical student, university trustees and the executive vice president of BJC.

The committee has scheduled three open forums with the School of Medicine community to learn what qualities matter most in a new dean. Students, faculty and staff are invited to attend one of these forums to provide input regarding the issues facing the medical school and the search for candidates.

Three separate forums will be held for students, faculty and staff. Those unable to attend are invited to email comments and suggestions to wusmdeansearch@wustl.edu.
